Do you remember the Co-op in Skåbu? From co-op building to hotel and restaurant

The Skåbu Co-op, a community gathering place in Gudbrandsdalen for generations

This building was once the local cooperative store, and for generations it served as the heart of the village. Goods were bought and sold across the counter, and the co-op's lorries and buses transported both supplies and people. When the King got stuck on his way to the mountains for Easter in 1936, it was the co-op that funded the road repairs.

We have also heard stories about the café, the jukebox and even a lingerie fashion show. Is that true? And just how old is the building? We believe it may be nearly 100 years old.

Today the building is home to a hotel, café and restaurant. Neighbours from the village, holiday home owners and guests from across Norway and around the world all gather here around the same table. Many of them ask about the history of the building. We want the warmth and hospitality to remain just as it always was, and we want the old memories to live on alongside the new ones created here every day.
