It's the People You Remember | Skåbu Fjellhotell

Summer holidays

It's not the place you remember best – it's the people you met there

The main summer holiday is now starting, when the country virtually shuts down. Half of Norway is packing its luggage! No matter where your trip takes you – to the cabin, to Southern Europe or just to the neighbour’s barbecue party – the holiday is about the same thing: experiencing something new, and coming home a little richer than when you left. Preferably with a little sand in your shoes and a story to tell.

From backpacker to host in Skåbu

I've climbed the world's most beautiful peaks, slept in the jungle (without getting much sleep, to be honest) and visited sites around the world. But what I remember best is not the view – it's the people. The family in Australia who opened their home to two backpackers. The family in Peru who shared their food with us. The family in India who gave us a bed, simply because they saw that we needed it. No ulterior motive. Only sincere and genuine care.

Guests from all over the world find their way to Skåbu

This is what we are trying to pass on here in Skåbu! And what really warms our hearts is that guests from all over the world are now finding their way here, and bringing their own stories with them in their luggage. We now get to experience the same meetings that changed me during my adventures abroad here at home. The only difference is that we are now the ones opening our doors. The value goes both ways, and that is perhaps the very best thing about hospitality and lovely human encounters.

So, when you come to Skåbu: feel free to pack hiking boots and a good mood. I hope you fall in love with the mountains, just like I did. But even more, I hope you leave here with a face you remember, a conversation you carry with you, a good feeling – because that's how a place really becomes a part of you.

We at Skåbu wish you a wonderful summer!
