When moose hunting season begins

25 September marks the start of moose hunting season, and life in Skåbu takes on a rhythm all of its own.

Here, moose hunting is about far more than the hunt itself. It is about people, traditions and a sense of belonging. About knowledge passed down from generation to generation. About early mornings, frost on the grass, a cup of coffee by the campfire and the silence that settles over the mountains.

For generations, the moose has been an integral part of life in this village. The hunt has put food on the table, created work and brought people together. It has taught us to care for the nature in which we live.

Autumn in the mountains

There is something truly special about autumn in the mountains. The air smells fresher, the colours deeper and the evenings darker. After a long day outdoors, there is nothing better than coming inside, perhaps with something good in your glass and a meal around the table with the people you have shared the day with.

At Skåbu Fjellhotell, we look forward to receiving moose meat directly from the hunters. And we look forward to treating our guests to wonderful meals made from locally sourced ingredients, from the forests around us. Up here in the mountains, people, food and stories come together.
